Ken Sumka can be heard on Chicago's WXRT. He did his first show at XRT February 5th, 1994. He can be heard after Sound Opinions on Tuesday nights, most Saturdays 7PM-Midnight, Sundays after Jazz Transfusion and frequently fills in at night and overnight. The man loves muisc...so if you see him out and about at any of the numerous Chicago muisc venues, buy him a drink and ask the question, "So what are you listening to these days?" Before he dies, he'd like to see the Cubs play in a World Series. Ken also runs a very entertaining blog called Gaper's Blog.

Dear Ken….glad to here your pipes still shifting the air at nights.
I always underestimated you I must confess thinking of you more as “Ken” lite since you also did the air reporting thing…the thing is that you do see the little divots, the patches of earth stretching it’s arms out into the arms of high rises and the intricate nuances of Chicago’s drop off the ethnic ontinent into another culture demarcations and slices that we can only feel with our fingers and our toes from ground level. You can fold up the city into fragile paper shapes and objects from a pristine view while the rest of us see the man we pass on the street waiting for the bus spit at our feet in an intentional or more or less half-hearted spew…wishing his aim was as bad as usual….you are above all that ….in a swosh in between the monoliths….I hate to bring this up, but I remember that we tried to stop smoking at the same time….I have scuffled at it…but in a frollicsome twist of denial I give myself credit for keeping the number of cigarettes at a mildly lethal 3-6 a day…and more importantly by far, I am smoking with a filter now…I used to be such a knuckle-head that I ripped the filter off when I smoked…I convinced myself that it was the filter that had all the cancer-causing stuff in it. I smoke American Spirit, now fortunately with a filter that doesn’t have the cancer shrapnel in it–I hope?
It is hard…I am so nervous all the time and fidgity…so fidgity that I can rarely be captured on film in photographs…really
request: I haven’t heard any Jeff Tweedy today…who I happen to think has the most star quality and talent and in constant flux more than any other rock artist today…..just my opinion….
for what it is worth….could you please play either the deepest or most mysterious of a jeff tweedy solo song or the same of a Wilco song….I would surely appreciate it !
God Bless You and your Family!

On a "Lucas" blog, I found that you were an extra for the film. Do you recall what you were paid? I'm writing an online novel partially set in Glen Ellyn in '85 that mentions the "Lucas" filming. If you could help me with that detail, I'd appeciate it. It's at www. summerof1985.wordpress.com. Thanks.

we may judge a man’s ability by three things :by what he has done (including the impression he has made on others ),by what he himself appears to believe he can do ,by our own dramatic imagination ,based on his immediate personality ,of what he might do. If these do not agree it is prudent to observe him further.
