-Born and raised?
Overland Park, Kansas
-Currently living where?
Austin, Texas. Okay, well, it's not technically Austin out here in Hill Country USA.
-Three of your favorite albums from the glorious 1980's?
Substance, Life's Rich Pageant, Joshua Tree... also a big fan of Purple Rain...oh yeah, and Tim.
Rolling Stones or the Beatles?
Beatles
-The Clash or The Sex Pistols?
While I don't consider myself a youngin', I was a bit too young to be able appreciate both bands in their prime. Since then, I've come to recognize the greatness of The Clash.
-Footloose or Dirty Dancing?
Footloose
-Smokey & The Bandit or Cannonball Run?
I just saw Cannonball Run -- OMG! It's so cheezy and raunchy but totally funny.
-Milkshake or Rootbeer Float?
Rootbeer Float
-Daily life would be so much better if...-What I really miss about being a kid (kid = 5-10 years of age) is...
Afternoon naps, recess, summer vacation, working on my imagination skills, getting to spend time taking lessons to learn how to do things I rarely do as an adult
-Do you own a pet(s)? Name(s)?
No pets now.
-If you had to take a bath w/ one of the characters from Friends who would it be (Joey, Ross, Chandler, Monica, Rachel, or Pheobe)?
I couldn't fit into my tub with any of them! Plus, I'm not a fan of bathing in someone else's dirt, even if they're better looking and wealthier than me. If taking a bath was really code for going shopping or taking a road trip, I'd choose Phoebe.
-I remember reading George Burns saying everything goes better w/ ketchup. Everything goes better with...
chocolate
-The youth of today, it seems they've taken the innocence out of everything! What are your thoughts on bringing back "dry-humping"?
K - you are right on. What's up with everyone needing to know everything by the time they're 14 or 15 or whenever? I'm all for keeping us innocent as long as possible especially now that I have a son. I think if you changed the name to something else, people would be more interested. A dry hump sounds kind of gross -- like a painful disease that affects whales and camels -- or bad acne that just needs a little proactive (ha).
*First thought that comes to mind when hearing the following:
-Big Lebowski? K...I've never seen it.
-President George W. Bush? Barack Obama!
-Pizza? Totally! Edwardo's (Milw), Gino's East (Chi) and here in Austin I like Homeslice.
-Skinny Dipping? Too cold.
-BBQ? Kansas City! Haywards, Gates, Smokestack. Austin's Salt Lick is good too.
Michelle Anthony is music to my ears! Her music is like this, it feels like it grew from the ground and then flowed out of her heart. Michelle Anthony is a Kansas City native, Milwaukee transplant and current resident of Austin, Texas. Michelle released her first solo album, (the unjustly neglected gem) "Stand Fall Repeat," in August 2004 on the Chicago label Burn and Shiver. In recording her album, she worked with ex-Wilco instrumentalist, Jay Bennett, at his studio in Chicago. "Frozenstarpalace," released on October 31, 2006, file it right between Summerteeth and Tapestry. The KC native made a record, that some say, “It’ll make Brian Wilson cry!” Which gives the listener the impassioned rocker “Ugly Side”, which sounds like a lost gem from the Learning to Crawl-era Pretenders, and the astonishingly Mann –like “Aluminum”.
***You can also hear Michelle on the (very important) benefit record – The Voices and Faces Project – which also features Neko Case, Jesse Sykes, Joseph Arthur, Motion City Soundtrack, The New Pornographers and more!
"[I]t’s a mark of her versatility and musical dexterity that she’s able to veer so adeptly between genres, playing the sensitive songstress one moment and the brash, defiant rocker the next... it’s merely the mark of an artist who can claim brilliance as part of her vocabulary."
